The concert was a whole lot of fun - much more fun than I expected. It was pretty wild (imagine 15,000 tweens screaming their heads off). The music was good and all the dancing / fireworks / stage stuff / lighting was enjoyable as well. Was it work what we paid for the tickets... I would say yes. Yeaaa... My Christmas shopping is done. I really don't like to shop much unless we're on vacation or a trip, so we have an annual trip to Wal-mart with a big list and usually two buggies. I knew it was too good to last... the Kentucky wildcats lost... sniff.

Something I have started doing lately is listening to the radio play by play while I watch the game. I use the mp3 player that I got last Christmas. So far it has worked like a charm, the only problem is there is about a half second or so delay between the radio and the tv... I'm not sure why that is.

Today is fun Friday but it also comes with a lesson.

My daughter like millions of other tweens and teens loves Hannah Montana. She is going on a concert tour in the fall. I decided that I would surprise her and try to get tickets for a concert in Lexington on December the 12th. As I was doing my research I found that tickets weren't yet on sale for the concert there but you could buy pre-sale tickets if you were in her fan club. So I venture to her fan club and find out that to join you have to pay $30 for the year... of course I join but I find after I joined I find out that the pre-sale tickets are sold out. I wonder how many thousands / hundreds of thousands of folks have joined the 'club' because of the tickets.

I found out later from Haley that in her latest CD had been an offer for a free month in the club.

Some superb marketing if you ask me, and yes I'll be poised on the ticket master site on Sat. and hopefully I'll get a ticket (wish me luck).

I love the fall.

First there is football. College football or pro it doesn't matter. I enjoy watching them all. I'm really glad I have a dvd recorder... otherwise I might miss some of the late night games. I'm no night owl and like to do most of my best work in the moring. That is kind of odd coming from someone that worked the nightshift (7pm to 7am) for five or so years.

The new tv lineup... finally the reruns are over. Although lately cable has been making the summer not so bad with some really good shows. Some I'm looking forward to are Heroes and The Bionic Woman. The Heroes DVD I got had a trailer for The Bionic Woman and it does look good. Hopefully 24 will be better this year than last.... when you can tell what is going to happen, before it happens it's time to mix things up.

From the forecast it looks like me may actually get some cooler weather as well, from highs in the mid 90's to the 70's.

Yesterday we had a power outage... it wouldn't have been so bad but it was 100+ in the shade and I had work falling of my desk. So short and sweet today - next weekend plan to take some time off. Where has the week gone.... I don't think I've mentioned yet but during the Summer we bought a Play Station 2. We debated between the play station 2 and 3 (this was before the playstation 3 price drop). We decided that since the 2 had more games we would go with that. Haley especially wanted to buy a "singing" game. She got it ( Singstar Pop) and I must say that it has been a lot of fun for the entire family. It includes songs that almost everyone would hear on the radio constantly and of course it has the words at the bottom of the screen as well as where the "pitch" for the note should be. If you have anyone who loves to sing along with the radio I would highly recommend it.

Last weekend we had a good adventure ... as you probably know by now I enjoy adventures. The goal of our trip to Lexington was school shopping for Haley. I heard or read something that made me chuckle. Why do people go school shopping, do all of their clothes magically disappear when they go to school or do they all suddenly not fit. I guess it is a coup for the marketing folks that we think we need to buy new clothes every fall.

Anyway the trip was enjoyable. I got a bit of work done and the Mac is performing beautifully. I did get parallels desktop for Mac. It does work well, some of the programs actually seem to work faster than on my 'main' computer.

I will say that Saturday we shopped for clothes for about 8 hours. I really don't see how someone could look at the same styles over and over. It also amazes me how a shirt in one shop is $40 and in another it is $10, and in a 3rd it is $60 but half off. It would be fun to do a marketing test and find out which one someone would buy if they had all three choices in one spot.

The hotel we stayed in was the comfort suites. It was kind of weird but our door lock (you know the one's that you slide the card in) malfunctioned. I didn't know that those locks took batteries. The lock ended up being kaput so we got a night for free...

On Sunday we watched Harry Potter and I say it was a great movie - I still need to read the last two books. Hopefully your weekend will be enjoyable. We have a birthday party at the skating rink and besides that playing some catch up.

Enjoy your day - one note we'll be taking a long weekend this week so Thursday will be the final post this week .... can you believe it is almost time for the kiddies to go back to school... me either.

This week we were pretty swamped - no complaints though. The week seemed like it lasted about an hour. So my review on the Mac will need to wait till next week. We did do something fun for Haley this week though. We got her the Play Station 2 (after some debate on whether to get the 2 or 3... the 2 won out pretty handily because they have so many more games). She has always enjoyed singing and so we also got the game Sing Star with microphones. The game grades the singer on their pitch and how long they hold their notes. She has had a few late nights this week with friends and Lisa as they practice their singing skills, so it was definitely worth the cash and if you have any aspiring singers in your house, I would recommend it as well.

I'm still exploring the mac - so I'll give you a better review of what I think next week. A couple of things I've noticed though...

1. It is fast - I got the 2.4 with 2 gigs of ram - then purchased a 4 gig set seperately and installed it. (that saved me hundreds of $$).
2. Everthing I've plugged into it so far has worked like a charm. Printers, mice, cameras, video recorders etc.

I did buy some new books to go along with it and hopefully get me up to speed.

I'm kind of excited today - I've just bought my first Mac (a notebook) and will be rearraning some things in the office so that it will 'fit'. Wow June flew by and July is already 1/3 of the way gone... I guess that time flys when you are having fun. This week we'll work on catching up with some good info that has been piling up in our inbox.

Today a review of our travels -

During the first part of June we traveled to Myrtle Beach and stayed in a condo we've rented for the past several years. The weather this year was wonderful - it only rained a day. At night it was actually chilly enough to wear a light jacket. I was talking to the condo rental folks and it seems like the market for condos is getting a bit full, so if you have some flexibility in your travel you may want call a week or two before you go and ask for specials or bargains. Another thing I've seen done is rent a cheap condo then when you get there ask them have there been any cancellations. Someone I know saved about $600 for the week.

Then we had vacation Bible school for a week - I taught the preschoolers and we had a blast.

Then we ventured north to Indiana for some work and a wedding. Again we had a wonderful time. At the wedding reception I talked Lisa and Haley into dancing with me and we all had a blast (and were a bit sore the next day).

Today a public service announcement... I did something really dumb today.

I usually have Oatmeal, Cream of Wheat, or Grits for breakfast. Today it was Grits. I was in a big hurry and not paying attention (2 mistakes). Usually I wait a few after the Grits are done before reaching in... today I didn't. It was hot. I spilled it all over my hands.

A bit of a rant today - yesterday I saw a report on one of the morning news shows about rebates. During the last Christmas holiday season I bought a few products because they had a rebate... I will never / ever do that again. In fact I won't be shopping with one particular outlet at all. They really have you in a pickle if you think about it. Seems like my rebate check for $200 is lost. Like I said though I speak with my wallet.

Happy Fun Friday - we got a skiff of snow this morning. One thing (to me anyway) to remember about having fun is that it all doesn't have to be active. One of my favorite activities is bird watching. During the winter we set up some seed outside of our sliding glass doors. It takes a few hours but the birds will find it. Wow... it's been a busy week. But busy is good. The Tama Flu worked for Haley so she is feeling better. Today is her B-day and it snowed so she has no school and is a bit disappointed because she will miss getting the presnets delivered to her while she's in school. Last weekend we had her party and that was fun... she really racked up the cash.

This weekend is the superbowl and I do love football, more lately than ever before for some reason. I have a DVD Recorder ( Panasonic DMR-EH55) that I really enjoy putting through it's paces. I do enjoy the commercials - maybe if I have a chance I'll get creative and put them all on a DVD. The plan when I got the DVD recorder was to take videos we have and transfer them to DVD, I haven't done that but that is on a long range to-do list. I do like the recorder although in my area the TV Guide doesn't work for some reason. Hope everyone has a wonderful weekend.

Fun Friday is here. Looks like we may have some wild weather here - I can handle about anything except for ice and the power outages that follow - they are talking about some ice so here's hoping and praying that we get either snow or rain.

We are definitely still enjoying our Wii - I would also like to recommend an additional game for you - Excite Truck. You drive a 4 wheel drive truck by holding the controller sideways and then "steering" it like you would a steering wheel. Sounds a little complicated but my 9 year old a 14 year old and yours truly got the hang of it pretty quickly. You drive in different environments and tracks and as you progress you unlock new things. I would definitely rank this a 5/5.

Click the movie - thumbs down. My daughter wanted it and it was definitely not age appropriate for a nine year old. The last part of the movie was ok, the first part stunk. Recommend using the DVD as a coaster.

Another Fun Friday....

We continue to enjoy the wii - one thing that you're able to do is take a test that estimates your age. You do several different tasks, hit a baseball, bowl different setups of pins etc. Based on how well you do. When I started my estimated age was 70. A week or so later my estimated age is now 30 or so. My goal is to become a teen ager again.

I am a huge fan of 24 and got the Season 5 dvd set as a Christmas present. I've almost managed to make it through them and definitely have enjoyed it almost as much as the first time through. The 24 season starts again on Sunday... this season I think I'm going to track things like how many times Jack gets knocked down. I haven't sneaked a peak at the Season 6 prequel yet, but I've heard it is good.

We're going to get socked here with lots of rain over the weekend so it may be a good time to start a good book. Till Monday take some time to play this weekend.

We're going to start a new tradition - on Fridays we'll talk some about some ways we have fun... after all I'm a strong believer in all work and no play makes Jack (or Jill) a dull boy (or girl).

One of the really great things that we got in December was the Wii (I pronounce it about 14 different ways but I think it is like a french yes). So far we have enjoyed it tremendously. It comes with a sports game that has bowling, baseball, boxing, and tennis. The unique thing about the game is that you control the game by moving your arms, not just clicking a button. An example if you bowl, then you stand up and move your arms like your bowling, for baseball you swing the controller and that swings the bat. It is the only video game I've ever played that I actually worked up a sweat when playing. We'll talk some more about this later but we are definitely enjoying it now.
